There are several building programs that have been created specifically for improving the indoor air quality of a home. These programs are science backed and proven to deliver results. Each program lays out building practices and technologies that can be employed for healthier building outcomes.
Here’s a quick rundown of some of the most popular new construction building programs with indoor air quality measures that we certify homes to.
ENERGY STAR & Indoor airPlus
Developed by the EPA, an Indoor airPlus qualified home must also be ENERGY STAR certified. This combination program provides a government backed, science-based approach to efficient, comfortable, and durable homes with improved indoor air quality. If you’re already an ENERGY STAR builder, Indoor Air Plus is the next step to offering a healthy home.
ecoSelect
This program was designed by SEM as an alternative to ENERGY STAR & Indoor AirPlus. We laid out the program requirements in an easy to understand one page checklist. It’s the simplest, most impactful, and affordable program available in the Carolina’s to deliver high-performance, healthy homes.
National Green Building Standard (NGBS)
Developed by Home Innovations Research Lab (HIRL), a division of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), this comprehensive green building program encompasses 7 aspects of Green Building. There’s an entire chapter completely dedicated to indoor air quality.
Department of Energy - Zero Energy Ready Home
If you’re ready to take high-performance to the next level, this is the program for you. Developed by the Department of Energy, this program combines ENERGY STAR & Indoor Air Plus with a few additional energy efficiency & solar ready requirements.
