We’re excited to celebrate Rob Howard, President of Howard Building Science, as our Winter 2024 Shine On Champion!
Rob exemplifies our core values of Never Settle and Invest in the Greater Good through his groundbreaking work in affordable, high-performance housing — a challenge that few private builders take on. With over 20 years in the industry, he’s not only building some of the most efficient homes in North Carolina but also shaping the future of residential construction through his teaching and advocacy.
We’re grateful to work alongside such an innovator, educator, and all-around awesome human. Congrats, Rob!
What Makes Rob a Shine On Champ?
Rob has been building ENERGY STAR Homes since 2001, he built the first Net-Zero Energy Home in North Carolina in 2005 and the first DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes in North Carolina in 2015.
Rob was nominated by our Building Energy Services Team Lead, Richard Bohlen, and our Field Team Operations Manager, Matt Dovenbarger. Here is what they have to say about why Rob shines:
“Rob embodies everything we wish to see in all builders. Not only does make incredibly efficient houses but he makes them very affordable. He’s constantly looking for ways to innovate and improve not only his houses but the field of residential construction as a whole. Not only is he president of Howard Building Science, but he’s also a lecturer at Appalachian State University for building science courses. He is also an outspoken advocate for more energy efficiency construction across the country as he has recently spoken in a congressional hearing advocating for the national adoption of the 2021 IECC. I can’t say enough about Rob and it’s a true pleasure to get to work with him.”
