Homes By Dickerson is celebrating 10 years of high-performance building this year. As it crosses that milestone, the custom builder stands as the top National Green Building Standard (NGBS) single family home builder in the nation. Homes By Dickerson has built more than 900 NGBS certified homes. That number represents 24 percent of all NGBS homes in North Carolina and 7 percent of NGBS homes built nationally. As a testament to its remarkable commitment and success in high performance building over the last 10 years, Homes By Dickerson was named the 2018 NGBS Green Partner of Excellence.
Southern Energy Management Green Building Programs Manager Jamie Hager has seen firsthand how the team at Homes By Dickerson truly cares about the impact they are making on the industry and the environment.
“It has been great to see the Homes By Dickerson team not only grow over the last 10 years, but also embrace high-performance as a necessary component to quality home building. It is not just a “selling feature” to them but rather it is quality assurance that their homes will be comfortable and healthy in addition to beautiful. They understand they are not just building homes, they are building lives,” said Hager.
Over the past decade, the custom builder has devoted its resources to ensuring that each of its homes were built to the highest energy standards possible. The company’s efforts have resulted in numerous awards, multiple adoptions of high-performance building practices, and growth as a national leader in green building. Most importantly, however, its efforts have provided thousands of families with peace of mind about their comfort, their health, their money, and their impact on the environment.
Homes By Dickerson completed its first Energy Star Home in 2008 and dove headfirst into high-performance building in 2009 — joining the Green Home Builders of the Triangle and making a company-wide commitment to building green. Since 2009, all Homes By Dickerson homes have been Energy Star and National Green Building Standard (NGBS) certified as well as voluntarily built to the North Carolina HERO Code.
Taylor Fearrington, Southern Energy Management’s Business Development Manager, has worked with Homes By Dickerson continually over the last ten years, and has seen firsthand the hard work and dedication Homes By Dickerson’s team puts into every home.
“Homes By Dickerson has a crystal clear vision of who they are and what their brand represents,” Fearrington said. “That vision is shared equally on all levels of the organization.”
This work ethic has led Homes By Dickerson to win a number of green building awards over the last decade. In 2011 Homes By Dickerson was named Green Partner of the Year by the NAHB Research Center, and by 2018, it was recognized by Home Innovation Research Labs as having the most National Green Building Standard (NGBS) certified single-family homes nationwide. In 2018 — in addition being named NGBS Green Partner of Excellence — it also won the 2018 MAME Best Green Home award and received a perfect score in the 2018 Triangle Parade of Homes.
Homes By Dickerson has led the market with their commitment to high-performance and green building and they will continue to push the green building envelope over the next 10 years to come. As part of Southern Energy Management’s Zero Energy Blueprint program, Homes By Dickerson is already driving the market to embrace the home of the future by offering solar as a standard upgrade option on all of its new homes.
Southern Energy Management’s Solar Designer, Graham Alexander, praised Homes By Dickerson’s adoption of solar and Zero Energy Blueprint programs.
“By offering standard solar energy options to its homeowners, Homes By Dickerson is taking a step to encourage all home builders in The Triangle to see this technology as a normal upgrade option, rather than a specialty item,” Alexander said.
But solar is just the beginning. Homes By Dickerson is working with its homeowners to add the next generation of home energy features: intelligent battery storage via Tesla’s Powerwall and electric vehicle charging capabilities included with every solar system.
Homes By Dickerson will continue to champion for the change towards high-performance building in the Triangle and across North Carolina over the next 10 years through market leadership and innovative spirit.
