Building a Blueprint for Affordable Net-Zero Energy Housing

Southern Energy Management is proud to work with Habitat for Humanity groups across North Carolina to create access to affordable, net-zero energy ready housing.

Our Zero-Energy Blueprint for resilient, affordable housing utilizes the ENERGY STAR process, partnered with local incentives, and solar power to provide future-proof housing, access to sustaining a healthy home and lifestyle, while maintaining a lower total cost of ownership.

Working With Communities to Build Healthier Housing

When it comes to ensuring homes are durable, energy efficient, and healthy, 3rd party verification to certifications like ENERGY STAR not only provide quality assurance, but also introduce high-performance building strategies to the volunteer workforce at the center of Habitat’s build process.

Aligning Resources

The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency (HFA) also provides supportive funding to affordable housing developers that certify to the ENERGY STAR program. Through NC HFA’s recognition of ENERGY STAR and similar programs, Habitats in North Carolina are able to deliver healthy homes with an average $30/month utility bill!

A Path Toward Net-Zero

With reduced and consistent energy bills, Habitat Homes are able to more affordably get to net-zero energy with smaller solar systems. This provides protection against rising energy prices while bringing environmental justice to communities most impacted by climate change.
