Solar Advice from Our Winter Referral Raffle Winner

Solar referral basket winner from Southern Energy Management standing in front of his home solar system

Meet the Referral Raffle Winner!

We are excited to announce the winner of our first referral raffle, the Kronenfeld Family! The Kronenfelds went solar with us in 2019 and have since offset the equivalent amount of carbon sequestered by 135 tree seedlings grown for 10 years by powering their home with solar. We asked Mr. Kronenfeld a few questions about his solar journey, check out what he what he had to say below.

Why was investing in solar energy for your home important to you?

With living in an environment that can have extreme heat and humidity and a home with 4 electric HVAC systems, I felt it imperative to seek alternative sources of energy. With the challenges that power companies are facing with dealing with fossil fuels and costs, Duke Energy was not going to be lowering my rates anytime soon. It did not hurt having the Federal Tax Credits and Duke Energy rebate program, that was an added bonus.

What made you choose to go solar with Southern Energy Management?

We met the company at a home show at the Wilmington Convention Center. There were other solar companies showing as well. The young man was extremely conversant in solar and was able to communicate it in very understandable terms to a layperson. He pulled our home up on a computer and walked us through how the process worked. He also offered to have a company representative do an onsite evaluation and explain the process and give us a cost estimate.

Do you have any advice for other homeowners starting their solar journey?

Do not let the price of the system dictate your decision. Price is a component of the total cost of something. Although it is a very important component, it should not be the driving force. The quality of equipment, expertise in the solar field, professional installers, walking you through the paperwork/rebate process, and technical support after installation need to be given serious consideration.
