Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is changing the way we think about how buildings and communities are planned, constructed, maintained and operated. LEED is the most widely used third-party verification for green buildings, with around 2.2 million square feet being certified daily.
Projects pursuing LEED for Homes certification earn points across several areas that address sustainability issues. Based on the number of points achieved, a project then receives one of four LEED rating levels: Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
LEED BD + C (Building Design & Construction) applies to buildings that are being newly constructed or going through a major renovation; includes New Construction, Core & Shell, Schools, Retail, Hospitality, Data Centers, Warehouses & Distribution Centers, and Healthcare.
LEED ID + C (Interior Design & Construction) applies to projects that are a complete interior fit-out; includes Commercial Interiors, Retail and Hospitality.
LEED for Homes applies to single family homes, low-rise multi-family (one to three stories), or mid-rise multi-family (four to six stories); includes Homes and Multifamily Lowrise and Multifamily Midrise. LEED-certified homes are resource efficient. They use less water and energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As an added bonus, they save money.
Southern Energy Management maintains a LEED Providership as well as a team of LEED AP’s and Green Raters underneath that.
