We’re excited to see Fitwel continuously evolve and uphold its commitment to creating a healthier world. As a proud Fitwel Champion Provider, we have collaborated on over 35 projects since 2021. Through our experience, we’ve observed a growing trend in dual program certifications, where properties integrate green building techniques with Fitwel’s healthy living initiatives.
Why should you consider Fitwel?
The Fitwel certification elevates building design to promote occupant health and well-being, while enhancing property marketability and meeting the rising demand for healthy work and living spaces. With Fitwel, you have a great platform to boost the ‘Social’ aspect of your Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals, helping you achieve a more holistic approach to sustainability.
Why is Fitwel introducing a new version?
Since the launch of v2.1 in 2018 and its revisions in 2021, the Center for Active Design’s Research team has continued to align their strategies with evolving public health research, specifically on how our built environment affects human health. Version 3 is a reflection of their updated research to ensure Fitwel stays at the forefront of the healthy building movement.
What’s changing with Fitwel v3?
Fitwel v3 will include new strategies addressing:
- Climate Change Resilience
- Acoustics
- Lighting
- Food Access
- Wayfinding
- Civic Engagement
- Occupant Safety
- Universal Accessibility

When will Fitwel v3 be required?
For any projects registering after July 16th, you’ll be required to use v3. If you have projects already registered for v2.1 (before July 16th), this won’t impact those.
