COVID-19 Update: Safety Precautions and Protocols

Solar installer wearing gloves and cleaning an inverter for COVID-19 safety

As the COVID-19 situation evolves at a global, national, and local level, Southern Energy Management is constantly evaluating the best ways to continue to serve and protect our customers, our team, and our partners.

We will continue offering world-class solar and building energy-efficiency services. As we do this important work, we are prioritizing compliance with the CDC and WHO protocols for social distancing and virus prevention. This includes the following:

Office

  • Requiring team members who are able to work from home to do so
  • Staggering our field team to minimize person-to-person contact
  • Instituting extra cleaning and sanitizing of all warehouse, vehicle, and company property

Solar & Battery Assessments

  • We are implementing a virtual solar assessment process, where customers can review solar proposals live with a designer during a Zoom web call. This will keep our team and customers as safe as possible while still maintaining the personal nature of our solar design process.

Solar & Battery Installations

  • Any team member displaying any cold-like symptoms will be sent home immediately.
  • 90% of our work is performed outside so we are a safe distance away from customers. However, team members will maintain a 6′ barrier between themselves and all customers when in the same vicinity.
  • Trips inside the home will be kept to an absolute minimum. Either straight to the attic and back out, or straight to the bathroom and back out.
  • We will also wash our hands every chance we get. Don’t be surprised if you hear us singing “Twinkle, twinkle, little star” to make sure we’ve gotten our 20 seconds of warm hand-washing in.

Single/Multifamily Field Inspections & Performance Testing

  • Our field teams are instructed to follow appropriate social distancing, maintaining 6’ between individuals
  • Everyone is to follow CDC guidelines on personal hygiene
  • We will be closely monitoring team member health and instructing anyone with cold-like symptoms to stay at home
  • All non-essential meetings will be held remotely and digitally
  • We will be following our builder partners’ guidance and not scheduling any non-emergency warranty work until further notice

If you have an existing appointment, solar installation, or building inspection and would like to reschedule because of concerns around COVID-19, please let us know. We will be happy to work with you to find a time that works best for you.

Our business is built on love for people and the world. We believe that we can best show this love through the above measures and through social distancing. For now, we won’t be shaking your hands or giving you a high-five, but will continue to help you improve the way you make and use energy. Shine On!

Resources

As our community works together to weather the new challenges of the unprecedented situation we are in, we encourage everyone to support each other safely (and 6’ apart). Here is a list of helpful resources that the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association (NCSEA) has put together for those in need and those able to help. We have also put together our own list of resources for those in need and those able to support others during this time.
