Southern Energy Hires Francis Conlin

Professional Engineer Francis Conlin Joins State’s Leading Solar Power & Energy Efficiency Company

MORRISVILLE – Southern Energy Management, the leading provider of residential and commercial solar power and energy efficiency services in the Carolinas, announced today that Francis Conlin, a nationally known building science expert and professional engineer, has joined their team as the company’s senior engineer.

In his new position, Conlin will lead SEM’s commercial building science team, which provides energy efficiency consulting and comprehensive building science services for commercial, municipal and industrial buildings, and also for industrialized housing. Conlin’s experience strengthens SEM’s core services, which include preconstruction energy and sustainability plan reviews, energy efficiency modeling for LEED and other high performance programs, and energy audits of existing buildings.

“With the addition of Francis to our team, we can now offer a complete portfolio of services to help corporations, commercial property owners and municipalities meet their energy efficiency goals and incorporate renewable power into their sustainability initiatives,” said Maria Kingery, co-owner and director of human resources at SEM.

In a career that spans three decades, Conlin has worked on countless high-profile projects across North America, and his work has been recognized in national publications. With particular expertise delivering solutions for commercial and industrial buildings, as well as manufactured buildings and town homes, Conlin has built an impressive portfolio of results improving building performance in the following areas: energy use/efficiency, indoor air quality, moisture management and overall comfort.

Prior to joining SEM, Conlin worked as a senior engineer for mSolve Building Science Solutions, a subsidiary of Wisconsin-based Kestrel Engineering, where he specialized in risk prevention, consulting and hands-on solutions to improve energy efficiency and building moisture-management, including mold prevention strategies. Conlin also has served as a senior project engineer and instructor for Advanced Energy, a nationally recognized research and consulting organization based in Raleigh. Additionally, he has developed and taught continuing education courses on moisture, mold and energy management for the NC Department of Insurance. His extensive knowledge and experience have earned Conlin national recognition as a leader in his field. He is often called upon to provide expert testimony for residential and commercial building performance.

Some of Conlin’s projects in North Carolina include conducting sustainability audits for 10 municipal buildings in the Town of Hillsborough, providing LEED consulting for the University of North Carolina, and performing an energy audit and utility bill analysis for the Museum of Life and Science in Durham.
