EPA Recognizes Southern Energy Management With 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award

SEM earns award for protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency

MORRISVILLE, NC – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded Southern Energy Management (SEM) a 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award in recognition of its continued leadership in protecting the environment through energy efficiency. This is the third time SEM has earned the Sustained Excellence award, and seventh consecutive Partner of the Year award.

Having been named an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year, the EPA continues to acknowledge SEM for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency testing and certification within the residential housing market.

“EPA is recognizing Southern Energy Management for earning EPA’s highest ENERGY STAR award – the 2013 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award,” said Bob Perciasepe, Acting Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. “Southern Energy Management leads the field with their commitment to energy efficiency and demonstrates how all Americans can save energy, save money, and create a healthier environment.”

SEM’s Building Performance department, responsible for the testing and certification of new home projects, has reached several significant milestones, which include certifying over 11,000 ENERGY STAR and green homes throughout the southeast. In 2012 alone, SEM partnered with over 100 homebuilders, helping them construct more than 1,500 ENERGY STAR certified homes; that equates to preventing at least 16-million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions from entering the atmosphere.

Over the past 20 years, with the help from ENERGY STAR, American families and businesses have saved nearly $230 billion on utility bills and prevented more than 1.8 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

The 2013 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a select group of organizations that have exhibited outstanding leadership year after year. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, and employing innovative energy efficiency approaches. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors. Award winners are selected from the nearly 20,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program. Award recipients will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
