Cary, NC – Discovery Automotive, a local independently owned garage, recently completed the installation of a 17kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of the business. The solar system was installed by local solar provider Southern Energy Management and will produce enough energy to offset nearly 100% of Discovery’s needs, saving 353 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the system’s life. That’s the same as not burning 378,829 lbs. of coal or 39,686 gallons of gasoline.
“We’re a leader, not a follower,” says Dave Lipman, owner of Discover Automotive. A long-time advocate for clean energy, Dave had already made numerous energy efficiency improvements, switching out his traditional lighting for more energy efficient lighting, including LEDs. He’s even had an electric vehicle (EV) charging station installed for his customers. He adds, “Solar is really the future of automotive: first powered by horses, then by diesel engines and now increasingly electric motors powered by solar energy.”
He is the first independent garage owner in Cary to install a combined solar and EV charging station.
